The New Approach: Casting Director Series

Four Week Intensive With Casting Director & Producer Paul Weber

Tuesdays, 7:30p - May 15th & 22nd, June 5th & 12th - $275

Understanding the audition process and what goes on in the room when you come in to meet with any casting director is an important part of building a career as an actor. In this 4-week course, Casting Director Paul Weber will guide you through the various components of this process and provide you with tools to audition effectively, including the following:

Week 1:

  • Mock Generals – Going in for a “general” with a CD is like going in for a job interview – each actor will participate in a 1-on-1 general with Paul, performing a prepared monologue, and reviewing headshots/resumes, training, & other aspects of their career.

Week 2:

  • Pre-Reads/Cold-Reads – Actors will be given scenes to perform cold – Paul will walk you through some techniques and tools on what to do in an audition when you are given the sides last minute – or don’t have adequate time to prepare for the pre-read.

Week 3:

  • Producer Session / Competition – Actors will be given audition sides to prepare ahead of time – to be off-book, and present at a Producer Session – and compete against their fellow actors. Paul will walk you through how to excel at these advanced auditions.

Week 4:

  • Network Tests – 3 actors from each of the 4 Producer Sessions will be chosen for the final Network Test. Every aspect of going in to test for the Studio will be covered, including test deals, working on camera (scenes will be filmed), & tape review. 4 actors will win the competition – & be awarded the “role”, as judged by their fellow peers.

Mr. Weber conducts cold reading / scene study workshops worldwide. His workshop focuses on the personal direction and guidance that will give the actor insight into the cold reading process, help the actor develop audition and marketing skills, and prepare the actor for a successful career in the industry.  As an instructor, he taught the popular class “The Working Actor, Get The Audition, Book The Job” at UCLA. He is presently working on a book about the audition process.
